LONDON: Famous Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi won the defamation case against ARY’s UK broadcaster.
NVTV has issued an on-air apology in a case filed by Meesha Shafi and agreed to settle the matter out of court. In its apology, NVTV acknowledged that its report had caused a “misunderstanding” and said that if our broadcast had caused any mental anguish to Meesha Shafi, we apologize for it.
It should be noted that in 2023, the UK High Court ruled that NVTV had damaged Meesha Shafi’s reputation in a report broadcast on December 5, 2020.
The court also ruled that the channel had portrayed the singer as someone who ignored the legal requirements of the court and repeated this behavior repeatedly.
NVTV stated in its report in December 2020 that Shafi had been deliberately violating the orders of the Pakistani courts for 2 years.
Documents submitted to the court stated that the channel had said in the report that Meesha Shafi had come to Pakistan, worked and left, flouting the court orders.
The channel has now admitted its mistake, apologized to Meesha Shafi and announced that it would resolve the matter out of court. Meesha Shafi also tweeted about the channel’s apology and told fans that she had won.
